THE HOME

History
The home was established in 1979 as a residential care home by the Abbeyfield Wirral Extra Care Society with the help of the generous bequest from the late Ian Sandie, in memory of his parents. At that time there were other existing local Abbeyfield societies operating in Birkenhead, West Kirby, Hoylake and Heswall providing the equivalent of sheltered housing, with live-in housekeepers but no wakeful night staff.

It had become evident that some of their residents were becoming to need more care if they were to remain under the Abbeyfield umbrella. As a result the Robertson Sandie Home was originally established to meet this challenge by providing residential care facilities for those Abbeyfield residents who needed them, as well as other residents with no previous Abbeyfield connection.
Committee
The Executive Committee of the society which is made up entirely by volunteers and has overall responsibility for the administration of the home and compliance with its corporate responsibilities.

Management
The day-to-day management and running of the home is the responsibility of the manager, who produces a formal report each month to the Committee dealing with current matters relating to residents, staff and house maintenance issues, a copy of which is sent to the Care Quality Commission. The manager has day-to-day contact with the Chairman of the Society on current issues and attends the quarterly meetings of the Committee to explain any matters or deal with any points raised.
